NEW YORK -  Sophomore Melissa Rigo of the Stony Brook volleyball team was honored Saturday, Dec. 7 at Madison Square Garden by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).

The ECAC recognized student-athletes who earned weekly awards during the 2013 fall sports season. The outside hitter was honored on the court of the World's Most Famous Arena during halftime of the Stony Brook men's basketball team's game against LaSalle.

Rigo was named ECAC Player of the Week Sept. 23 after recording three consecutive double-doubles and helping the Seawolves to wins over Bryant and Princeton Sept. 20-21 at the Bryant Invitational. She averaged 3.33 kills per set and 3.67 digs per set while hitting an efficient .358 on the weekend en route to all-tournament and America East Player of the Week honors.

Rigo, who hails from East Northport, N.Y., finished second on the team in double-doubles (13), kills (2.69) and digs (2.84) this season and was named to the conference's All-Academic team for her academic and athletic achievements.
