NEW YORK - Sophomore Melissa Rigo of the Stony Brook volleyball team has been invited to Madison Square Garden Saturday, Dec. 7 in recognition of her being named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week Sept. 23.

The ECAC will be honoring student-athletes who have earned weekly accolades during the 2013 fall sports season throughout the second game of the Holiday Festival, featuring St. John's and Fordham. The Seawolves men's basketball team will take on LaSalle in the first game at 11 a.m.

Honorees will be featured on the Jumbotron of the World's Most Famous Arena during timeouts and will receive two complimentary tickets to the doubleheader.

Rigo recorded double-doubles in all three matches at the Bryant Invitational Sept. 20-21, helping the Seawolves secure wins against Bryant and Princeton. She averaged 3.33 kills and 3.67 digs while hitting an efficient .358 for the weekend on her way to all-tournament and her first of two America East Player of the Week honors for the 2013 season.

The East Northport, N.Y., native finished second on the team in double-doubles (13), kills (2.69) and digs (2.84) in 2013. A business major, Rigo was named to the conference's All-Academic team for her work on the court and in the classroom.
