#Seawolves look to rebound against Providence, Hartford at Pritchard

Hathaway recorded back-to-back 20-dig efforts against SUNY rivals Binghamton and Albany last weekend

Stony Brook, N.Y. -After splitting a pair of road contests at Binghamton and Albany last weekend, the Stony Brook volleyball team returns home to play Providence Friday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. 

Last Time Out

After an impressive win over defending AE champion Binghamton Friday, Oct. 11, Stony Brook (9-12, 3-2 America East) came up short at preseason favorite Albany, 3-1, despite double-doubles from Kaitlin Costello, Hannah Dolan and Melissa Rigo and a team-high 21 digs from Lo Hathaway. Dolan tallied 42 helpers and 12 digs, while Rigo recorded a match-best 15 kills and 20 digs and Costello had 12 kills and 13 digs.  

Scouting the Friars

Providence (11-11, 3-2 America East) is coming off a 3-0 win over St. Peter's and has held opponents to just .181 hitting, the second lowest average in the league. Freshman Michelle Cruz is in the nation's top 20 in aces per set (.46), while Jordan Wiesler is dishing out 9.47 assists per frame.

Scouting the Hawks

New Hampshire swept Hartford Sunday, Oct. 13 in Durham to drop the Hawks to 8-14 overall in 2-4 in league action. The Hawks are second in the league with an average of 11.28 assists per set and are led by Jackie Tamburri, who sits second in the conference in dishes per stanza at 9.61.



Series History vs. the Friars

The Seawolves are a perfect 7-0 against the Friars and swept them in both meets last season.

Series history vs. the Hawks

Stony Brook is 22-5 against Hartford and earned a pair of 3-1 victories over the Hawks in 2012.

Aces are Wild

Stony Brook has been among the nation's leaders in aces per set all season and is currently fifth in the country and at the top of the conference with 1.85 aces per stanza. Dolan is 13th nationally and leads the America East with .49 aces per set, while Stephanie McFadden is 21st in Div. I and third in the league with .46 aces per frame.

Kaitlin's Killin' It

Costello, a senior, paces the America East with 3.11 kills per set. She is second on the Seawolves with eight double-doubles this season.


Rigo posted a pair of double-doubles against Binghamton and Albany last weekend and leads the team with 10 double-doubles on the season. The reigning America East Rookie of the Year has shown no signs of a sophomore slump as she currently ranks in the conference's top 20 in kills (7, 2.63), digs (16, 2.78) and hitting percentage (19, .175).

Dolan Out

After recording 41 assists in a win over defending AE champion Binghamton, Dolan notched the second double-double of her career last weekend against Albany when she served up 42 assists to go along with 12 digs. She is sixth in the conference with 8.54 aces per set.
