Hathaway accepts invite to European Global Challenge

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Rising junior Laura Hathaway of the Stony Brook volleyball team will play for the Southeastern team in the Bring it Promotions (BIP) European Global Challenge in Pula, Croatia. The tour will take place from July 10-21 and will include practices, training matches, a competitive tournament, sightseeing and cultural experiences across Europe.

Hathaway, a libero and defensive specialist, is one of 10 student-athletes from eight institutions selected to compete for the BIP-Southeastern (BIP-SE) squad. She will be writing a blog called "The LoDown" and will takeover the team's twitter handle, @StonyBrookVB, on July 20 to talk about her experiences overseas and interact with fans. 

The tour will begin in Budapest, Hungary, where the team will have an opportunity to sightsee, practice and compete against the 2013 Hungarian Cup Champion Vasas Sports Club. From Budapest, the squad will travel to Pula, Croatia for the European Global Challenge Opening Ceremonies.

The four-day tournament is slated for July 15-18 and will feature junior national teams, youth national teams and elite women's club teams from Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Montenegro, Russia, Romania and the United States. The tour will conclude in Italy with a sightseeing trip through the canals of Venice.
