Head Coach Coley Pawlikowski’s Reaction

“I think in the first set, we did a really good job of playing disciplined, simple volleyball. We played easy on our side of the court and executed our game plan. It was a really clean set. In two and three, we slipped away from that a little bit. We just needed a quick reminder to get back to that. When we did, we did a very good job of just handling the match.”

Recap

Stony Brook used an 11-1 run to break the first frame open and grab a commanding 21-10 lead.  The Seawolves recorded six blocks during the spurt, with Gillie playing a role in four of them, and later locked up a 25-16 win on a kill by Kathy Fletcher.

SB led by as many as five in the second stanza, but Hartford knotted it at 23-all late. Costello broke the tie with a kill, but a service error on the Seawolves evened the score at 24-24. Stephanie McFadden slammed one home to Stony Brook another set-point opportunity, and Fletcher once again secured the victory with a kill.

The Hawks prevailed in a close third stanza, 26-24, to force a fourth set. Stony Brook held a one-point edge, 21-20, late in the fourth when Hartford was whistled for a service error. McFadden registered an ace, and Melissa Rigo followed with a smack as the Seawolves went ahead by four, 24-20.
