Stony Brook, N.Y. -

Greetings from the Stony Brook Tennis office and welcome to the first-ever summer edition of the Coach's Corner!

I hope this update finds you doing well and enjoying the great weather that we've all been waiting for. Normally, we give you the summer off, but this time I wanted to share some special news with you. The summer edition is very specific and only deals with two topics - grades and gratitude!

First of all, I wanted to share with you the achievements of the tennis program in the classroom this past season. The women's program had a combined GPA of 3.25 and qualified for team ITA Academic All-America status. We also had several players qualify for Academic All-America on an individual basis. Some of the top performances included: Prerana Appineni ` 12 - 3.78, Fanny Charliquart ` 11 - 3.80, Katherine Hanson '12 - 3.77, and Gayatri Krishnan '11 - 3.91.

On the men's side - the guys finished with a combined team GPA of 3.51!! It was the highest team grade point average of any men's team (in all sports) in the America East Conference. The top individual performers were: Jon Epstein '10 - 3.60, Youssef Fassi-Fehri '09 - 3.67, Bertrand Marcos '12 - 4.0, Ilan Shvartz ` 10 - 3.5, Mitch Wong '12 - 3.69, and Ivan Rummel ` 11 - 3.94.

I am so proud of all of all our players for what they do on the court and in the classroom. They represent Stony Brook with a great deal of class and integrity and I just had to share this with you.

On the gratitude side of things - I want to take this opportunity to thank everybody who has contributed to our program this past year. I also wanted to make a special note of thanks to Susan Abbott for all of her help organizing this year's Funfest. Throughout the year it seems like I am always asking for a donation or contribution (probably because I am), but now I simply want to thank the following people:

Thanks again to all of you who have supported the tennis program this season and throughout all of the years. Without your generosity - it would be nearly impossible to run an effective Division I tennis program. As I enter my 11th season at Stony Brook - I can only hope that the next ten years will be as good as the first ten.

Have a great summer and I'll see you on the other side of the net.
