Coach's Corner - A Note From the Desk of Coach Glassman

Feb. 26, 2010

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Greetings and welcome to the second installment of the 2010 season Coach's Corner - a monthly newsletter to keep you informed and up to date on Stony Brook Tennis!

Both teams have been in action for the last three weeks and I'm happy to report that the season has gotten off to a great start! The women are carrying a 6-1 spring record after dropping the season opener to Columbia. Since then they have been on a six match tear with big wins over Army, UConn, and St. John's. In the process Anna Pieschl '12 was named Stony Brook Athlete of the week as well as the America East tennis player of the week on the strength of her 6-0 singles record. The women will be in action again on March 13 as we head to Ithaca to take on Cornell.

The men started the season with a three match winning streak that included wins over Fairfield, Army, and UConn before falling to Columbia this past weekend. Ivan Rummel '11 lead the way at number 1 singles and was also named the America East tennis player of the week. The men are headed to New Haven, CT this weekend for the Yale 4-Way. We will take on Marist, FDU and Yale on Saturday and Sunday. That reminds me of a story..... As I stood in Covent Garden and watched a minstrel stand on one leg as he balanced a shopping cart on his nose while he juggled two bowling pins and a chainsaw, a wise old Englishman said, "Nothing draws a crowd like a crowd!" So please come out and cheer for your Stony Brook Seawolves!

A couple of reminders - the 4th Annual Seawolves Tennis Funfest will take place on Saturday March 20 from 6:00-9:00pm at Eastern Athletic Club in Blue Point. In these tough economic times it's even more crucial that our alumni and boosters get behind events such as this. Please show your support of the Funfest by attending or sponsoring a student-athlete. Early registration will also save you a cool $15!

At this time I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of you who have made such generous contributions to PAWS. For those that are interested in supporting our program, simply e-maiI me with your shirt size and address and we will mail you a Stony Brook tennis shirt. We also have winter hats available this year. All we ask is that you make a PAWS donation of your choice to the tennis program.

If you know of any teammates/supporters that would like to receive the Coach's Corner - please feel free to send me their email address.

Take care and I look forward to seeing you on the other side of the net!
