#Seawolves wrap up fall at ITA Regionals

Cambridge, Mass. - In its final tune-up of the Fall, the Stony Brook women's tennis team competed at the ITA Regionals, hosted by Harvard University.
In singles action, junior Polina Movchan (Kiev, Ukraine) defeated Providence's Alana Prinos, 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 before falling to Princeton's Sivan Krems in the next round.
Sophomore Jackie AltanSarnai (Hinsdale, Ill.) lost to Boston College's Jessica Wacnik, 6-3, 6-3, in her singles match.
Freshman Nadia Smergut (New York, N.Y.), who reached the main singles draw with a pair of wins in qualifying, topped Columbia's Ioana Alecsiu, 6-7 (8-7), 6-2, 6-2. She followed with a victory over Harvard's Amanda Lin in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. Smergut fell to Yale's Madeleine Hamilton, 6-2, 6-2, in the round of 32.
Freshman Adey Osabuohien (Hazel Crest, Ill.), seeded seventh in qualifying, was upset in singles play.
Movchan and Osabuohien lost to the Boston College duo of Katya Vasilyev and Wan-Yi Sweeting, 8-3.
Smergut and sophomore Louise Badoche (Paris, France) dropped an 8-5 decision to Massachusetts' Yuliana Motyl and Aarzoo Malik.
The spring season will get underway on Saturday, February 3 against ASA College.
