#Seawolves compete on day one of Stony Brook Invitational

The Stony Brook women's tennis team open its fall season with the Stony Brook Invitational on Friday. Despite play ending because of darkness, the Seawolves picked up a number of singles and doubles victories.

Sophomore Jackie AltanSarnai won her 'A' flight match, besting Fordham's Sarah Ali, 6-2, 6-1.

In 'B' singles, junior Cassandra Dix (Northamptonshire, United Kingdom) topped Lisa Maas of LIU-Brooklyn, 6-0, 6-2.

Senior Lisa Setyon led Stony Brook in 'C' singles, beating LIU-Brooklyn's Isabella Wagener, 6-4, 6-1.

In 'D' singles, freshman Nadia Smergut won her first collegiate match, beating Army's Nan Porter, 6-2, 6-4. Sophomore Louise Badoche was victorious over Navy's Allie Pavlansky, 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles play, sophomore Becky Shtilkind and freshman Adesuwa Osabouhien will play the duo of O'Connor and Lorenzini of Army after victories in the round of 16 and quarterfinals. On the other side of the bracket, Setyon and Dix will face Fairleigh Dickinson's Castany and Leme in the semis after a pair of wins.

Altan Sarnai and Badoche teamed to beat Marist's Tahir and Morlock, 8-3, before falling in the quarterfinals.

Singles and doubles continues tomorrow morning.
