#Seawolves down UMBC to advance to America East Championship final

The Stony Brook women's tennis team will be vying for a third straight America East Championship title after a 4-2 victory over No. 4 UMBC Saturday at the Wilde Lake Tennis Club.
The Seawolves, seeded first, entered singles play up 1-0 with wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles. The strong duo of juniors Polina Movchan (Kiev, Ukraine) and Cassandra Dix (Northamptonshire, U.K.) captured an 8-2 win at No. 2. Freshman Nadia Smergut (New York, N.Y.) and sophomore Becky Shtilkind (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won 8-5 at No. 3.
With the match tied 2-2, Movchan claimed a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles to put the Seawolves ahead. Dix outlasted Josefin Stange-Jonsson, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, to clinch the match for Stony Brook.
Smergut's 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 3 singles tied the match at two apiece.
Stony Brook will face No. 3 NJIT, which upset No. 2 Binghamton, 4-3, tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
