Women's tennis tops UMBC, 5-2

The Stony Brook women's tennis team opened America East play with a 5-2 win over UMBC on Friday afternoon. The Seawolves won the doubles point and first three singles flights.

Senior Nini Lagvilava (Tbilsi, Georgia) dominated at No. 1 singles, winning 6-1, 6-1 in addition to an 8-3 doubles win with sophomore Polina Movchan (Kiev, Ukraine). Movchan was victorious at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-3.

Freshman Jackie Altansarnai (Hinsdale, Ill.) and sophomore Cassandra Dix (Northamptonshire, United Kingdom) also captured singles victories.

Stony Brook will travel upstate for matches against Binghamton and Hartford next Saturday, April 6.
