Swimming and diving concludes first day at AE Championship

Boston, Mass. - The Stony Brook swimming and diving teams wrapped up day one at the America East Championship on Thursday at the Boston University Aquatic Center. After five events, the men's team stands in second place and the women's team sits in fifth.

Freshman Kyle Gannon (North Babylon, N.Y.) kicked off the day with an impressive showing in the one-meter diving competition, placing fifth overall with a season-best score of 239.55. Fellow freshman Kaleim Reid (Uniondale, N.Y.) added a ninth-place finish in the event as well. 

The men's 200 medley relay team of junior Daniel Wenzel (Norwich, N.Y.), senior Mark Anderson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), freshman Larry Barbosa (Corona, N.Y.) and senior Ed McIntyre (Laurel, N.Y.) then delivered a strong performance with a second-place finish in 1:34.58. The women's team placed sixth in the event, despite setting a new season record with a time of 1:46.84.

In the 800 freestyle relay, the men's team placed third (6:53.27), while the women took fourth (7:28.78).
