2013 SCHEDULE

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook softball team and head coach Megan Bryant announced the 2013 schedule on Friday. In addition to an 18-game America East slate, the Seawolves will travel to five tournaments and will face competition from the BIG EAST, Big 12, Big 10, ACC, Sun Belt and Atlantic Sun.

"This schedule will challenge our young team early and often," Bryant said. "It will be interesting to see how we respond and rise to that challenge. Our emphasis will be to keep improving individually and collectively to be ready for the America East."

The Seawolves will be tested from the outset as the season opens on Feb. 15 against Louisville at the Jacksonville Tournament. The Cardinals finished the season ranked No. 17 in the nation and posted a 55-5 record en route to an NCAA Tournament appearance.

Stony Brook will also face the reigning MEAC champions, Bethune Cookman, in Jacksonville, in addition to games against Ohio State and host Jacksonville University.

The Seawolves will also compete in tournaments at Longwood (Feb. 23-24), North Carolina State (Mar. 1-3) and Florida Atlantic (Mar. 8-10). Stony Brook will battle Bucknell and the host Lancers at Longwood, before taking on Kansas, N.C. State, Lafayette and North Carolina A&T at the Wolfpack Challenge. At the FAU Tournament, Stony Brook will battle Eastern Michigan, Ball State, Louisiana-Monroe, Florida A&M and the host Owls.

The Seawolves will open a 20-game home slate on Mar. 15 with the Stony Brook Invitational and a field that includes Yale, Providence, Holy Cross and Manhattan.

America East play commences the following week on Mar. 23 when the Seawolves visit Hartford. Stony Brook will also travel to Albany (Apr. 13-14) and Maine (Apr. 20-21), and will host UMBC (Mar. 30-31), Binghamton (Apr.27-28) and Boston University (May 4-5) in conference action.

Other schedule highlights include matchups against local rivals LIU-Brooklyn (Mar. 27), the reigning NEC champion, and Iona (May 2), the defending MAAC champ. The Seawolves will also face BIG EAST foes Rutgers (Apr. 17) and Seton Hall (May 1) in a pair of doubleheaders.

The Seawolves posted a 36-17-1 record in 2012, including a 14-3-1 mark in conference play. Sophomore Allison Cukrov (Irvine, Calif.), the 2012 America East Pitcher of the Year, returns to lead the pitching staff, while fellow sophomore Shayla Giosia (6 HR, 44 RBI in 2012) is also back to bolster the lineup.
