Starkville, Miss. - Freshman Allison Cukrov (Irvine, Calif.) of the Stony Brook softball team was named second-team All-Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on Thursday. Cukrov posted a 25-10 record with a 1.94 ERA and helped the Seawolves tie a program record with 36 wins in 2012.

Cukrov struck out 227 batters in 234 innings en route to being named the America East Pitcher of the Year. A first-team All-Conference and All-Rookie selection, Cukrov set single-season program records with 25 wins and 13 shutouts in her first season with the Seawolves. The Irvine, Calif. native also tossed two no-hitters in 2012, including a perfect game on Apr. 5 at Manhattan.

Cukrov joins Virginia Tech's Jasmin Harrell (29-14, 1.90 ERA) and Virginia's Melanie Mitchell (19-13, 1.55 ERA) as the second-team All-Mid Atlantic Region pitchers. Cukrov is the second pitcher in Stony Brook history to be named to an NFCA All-Region team; Alyssa Struzenberg was honored three times on All-Region teams, including a first-team All-Mid Atlantic nod in 2009.

A total of 263 players representing 129 different institutions comprised the regional teams, including first and second teams for all 10 regions. The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region; all the honorees will also be eligible for selection to one of the three 2012 NFCA Division I All-American teams.
