Zeilman, strong pitching lead #Seawolves to sweep over UMBC
After having its series against UMBC delayed three days, the Stony Brook softball team swept two games from the Retrievers, winning game one, 3-2, and game two, 2-1. Junior Jessica Zeilman (Newfield, N.J.) had the game-winning RBI in both games.

Preview: The Stony Brook softball team will open America East Championship play against UMBC Thursday.  The Seawolves, seeded first for the first time since 2009 and the defending champs, will face the No. 4 Retrievers at 1 p.m.

Scouting UMBC: The Retrievers are led by junior Taylor Hall, who leads the team in average (.405), hits (60), doubles (13), homers (14) and RBIs (51).  Sophomore Danielle O'Neill is hitting .307 with 10 HRs and 20 RBIs.  Freshman Jessica Holte likely will be the starter in the circle.  Holte is 18-9 with a 2.24 ERA.  Opposing hitters are batting .262 against Holte.

Series: Including a pair of one-run victories this season, Stony Brook is 22-11 all-time against UMBC and also is in the midst of a eight-game winning streak over the Retrievers.  Junior Allison Cukrov (Irvine, Calif.) and sophomore Jane Sallen (Lake Worth, Fla.) earned victories over UMBC in April.
