Giosia nets second AE Player of the Week honor

Cambridge, Mass. - Sophomore Shayla Giosia (Runnemede, N.J.) of the Stony Brook softball team has been named the America East Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Giosia hit .467 and knocked in seven runs in five games last week en route to her second weekly honor of the season.
Giosia slugged .733 and scored six runs last week as Stony Brook (17-15) posted a 5-0 record against LIU Brooklyn, Fairfield and UMBC. On Wednesday against the Blackbirds, Giosia hit a three-run homer and finished with four RBI in an 8-7 victory in nine innings. Giosia followed with an RBI against Fairfield on Thursday, before posting two RBI in a three-game sweep of UMBC.
Giosia previously took home America East Player of the Week accolades on Feb. 25. As a freshman last year, Giosia earned Rookie of the Week honors on three occasions en route to second-team All-America East laurels.
Giosia and the Seawolves return to action for a doubleheader Thursday against Quinnipiac at 2 p.m.
