March 22, 2013
Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook softball team will open America East action this weekend when it hosts Hartford for a three-game series beginning Saturday at 1 p.m. The Seawolves have won five straight overall.
The series was originally set for West Hartford, Conn., before unplayable field conditions stemming from recent weather prompted the switch.
The Seawolves (11-13) are coming off a perfect 4-0 weekend at the Stony Brook Invitational, during which the team hit .290 and posted a 1.00 ERA. Sophomore hurler Allison Cukrov (Irvine, Calif.) earned America East Pitcher of the Week honors after winning two games at the tournament and holding opponents to a miniscule .027 average. Sophomore Shayla Giosia (Runnemede, N.J.) hit .429 over the weekend and knocked in four runs.
The Hawks enter with a 5-13 overall record, including four straight defeats. Erica Phelps leads the team with a .326 average, while Kate Wacyk owns a squad-best 11 RBI. In the circle, Zuzana Kudernatschova paces the Hawks with a 2.85 ERA and a 3-5 record.
Last Time vs. Hartford
The Seawolves swept the Hawks last year at University Field, outscoring Hartford by a 17-1 count. Stony Brook won the first two games by scores of 4-0 and 3-1, before posting a 10-0 victory to improve to 25-12 all-time vs. Hartford.
