Preview: After its invitational was cancelled, the Stony Brook softball team officially will open its home schedule Sunday against Sacred Heart in a doubleheader at University Field.  Game one is slated to begin at 1 p.m.

About Sacred Heart: The Pioneers come into today’s game with a 5-5 record having played tournaments in California (UC Riverside) and Florida (Rebel Games). Senior Jade Bowins is the team’s leading hitter with a .419 average. Freshman Andrea Sidor is batting .333 with an RBI. Junior Kacie Wentworth and sophomore Adrianna Mallory each have two wins. Freshman Jamie Carlson has 23 strikeouts in 30 innings.

Series: Dating back to 2000, Stony Brook is 14-8 against Sacred Heart.  The Seawolves swept a doubleheader from the Pioneers last season, winning 11-0 and 3-2.  Stony Brook outhit Sacred Heart, 21-7, in the two games.

Up Next: The Seawolves will host regional rival LIU Brooklyn on Wednesday, March 23 for a single game at 3 p.m.
