Softball travels to FAU Invitational this weekend

Boca Raton, Fla. - The Stony Brook softball team will venture south to Boca Raton, Fla. this weekend for the FAU Invitational. The Seawolves (6-9) are slated to face five opponents, beginning with Eastern Michigan on Friday at 9 a.m.

The Seawolves will be playing in Florida for the second time this season after competing in the Jacksonville Tournament in February. Stony Brook is paced by sophomore Bria Green (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) who is mashing at the plate with a .439 average, three homers and 13 RBI. Green hit over .500 last weekend in Raleigh, N.C. and knocked in nine runs as the Seawolves posted a 2-3 record at the NC State Wolfpack Challenge. Junior Christine Lucido (Melville, N.Y.) continues to lead the pitching staff with a 4-0 record and a 3.39 ERA.
Stony Brook's first opponent, Eastern Michigan (5-7) has already been to Boca Raton this season for a separate FAU Tournament, during which the team posted wins over Jacksonville, Harvard and Florida International. Katy Blaharski leads the squad with a .361 average and five stolen bases, while Jenna Ignowski owns a 2.51 ERA and a 4-0 record in the circle.
Ball State (8-8) has been competing in Florida since the beginning of March and notched wins over Eastern Michigan and FAU last weekend. The high-powered Cardinals offense (6.7 runs per game) is led by Jennifer Gilbert (.440 average, 6 HR, 20 RBI), while the pitching staff is anchored by Nicole Steinbach (3-5, 2.42 ERA).
Hosting its fourth tournament of the year, Florida Atlantic (8-13) has posted seven of its eight wins at home. Carnesha Thompson paces the team with a .405 average, while Laura Mann is the squad's leader in RBI with 13. As a team, the Owls own a 2.69 ERA and have four pitchers with sub-3.00 ERA's.
Louisiana-Monroe (8-11) started off the season with five wins in its first seven games, but has since lost nine of its last 12. The Warhawks feature six players with seven or more RBI, led by Janel Salanoa (.354 average, 2 HR, 8 RBI) and Haley McCall (.320, 2 HR, 9 RBI). Haylie Wilson has made 13 appearances in the circle and has a 5.39 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 61 innings.
Florida A&M (5-15) has struggled out of the gates against tough competition, but do own an impressive victory over SEC foe South Carolina. The Rattlers have not hit a home run yet this season and are averaging just 2.0 runs per contest. Brielle Gordon leads the team with seven RBI, while Jennifer Lindsey owns a team-best 3.83 ERA in the circle.
