Preview: The Stony Brook softball team continues the season in North Carolina at the 49er Invite hosted by Charlotte. The tournament also includes Liberty and Georgetown. The Seawolves will be looking to earn their first win of the season after opening the season in Georgia. Stony Brook is 2-6 all-time against Charlotte, 1-2 against Liberty and 1-1 vs. Georgetown.
Stony Brook will open the tournament tomorrow against Charlotte at 3 followed by Georgetown at 5. On Saturday, the Seawolves face Liberty at 10 a.m. Saturday's nightcap and Sunday's contest will be determined based on tournament records.
About Charlotte: The 49ers enter the tournament with a 5-5 record, including wins in three of their last four games. Jackie Kleinsmith leads the team with a .531 average and has hit two home runs with 10 RBIs. Samantha Slade is hitting .438 with six HRs and 14 RBIs. Lexi Betancourt has been solid in the circle, posting a 5-1 record. In 36 2/3 innings, she's struck out 46 batters.
About Georgetown: The Hoyas (3-6) head to North Carolina, having played in Florida and South Carolina. Elyse Graziano is the only hitter with a .300 average or better, batting .324 in the nine games. Lauren O'Leary has a 1-3 record despite a 1.86 ERA. Megan Hyson is 2-3 with a 2.77 ERA. O'Leary and Hyson have combined to give up only 19 earned runs in 56 innings.
About Liberty: Liberty returns to the Tar Heel state after posting its only wins of the season at the Seahawk Classic in Wilmington. The Flames (2-10) are led by Hanna Nichols' .385 average. Kelby Allen is hitting .345 with four doubles and six RBIs. As a team, Liberty is hitting .204. Alyssa DiMartino is 1-4 with a 3.00 ERA.
