Cambridge, Mass. - The Stony Brook softball team was picked to finish second in the America East, conference officials announced Friday. Head coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

Stony Brook received two of the seven first-place votes and 31 points overall.

Albany, which was picked to win the conference, received four first-place votes and 34 points. Binghamton was picked to finish third followed by Hartford, Maine, UMBC and UMass Lowell.

Head coach Megan Bryant returns seven starters, including juniors Shayla Giosia (Runnemede, N.J.) and Bria Green (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) and sophomore Alexandra Pisciotta, the Seawolves' top three hitters who each earned all-conference honors last season.

The pitching rotation, consisting of junior Allison Cukrov (Irvine, Calif.), senior Christine Lucido (Melville, N.Y.) and sophomore Jane Sallen (Lake Worth, Fla.), combined to post an ERA of 2.71 in 60 games.

Cukrov was named the America East Championship's Most Outstanding Player after recording three wins and a save to help lead Stony Brook to its second NCAA Tournament berth.

Lucido, who went 12-2 with a team-best 2.05 ERA last season, was a second team All-America East selection.

Stony Brook will begin the season three weeks from today at the Georgia Tech-Kennesaw State Invite.
