Softball silenced by Maine in 2-0 loss Saturday

Orono, Maine - The Stony Brook softball team dropped its first game of the weekend at Maine by a 2-0 score on Saturday at Kessock Field.


In a low-scoring affair, Maine (7-32, 3-7 America East) was able to grind out two runs on five hits to take home a 2-0 win. The Black Bears scored first in the third on an RBI single by Jean Stevens, before scoring again in the fourth on an RBI groundout by Katlin Norton.

Stony Brook (23-19, 5-5 America East) could muster nothing at the plate off Maine starter Beth Spoehr, who allowed only three hits in a complete-game shutout. Sophomore Bria Green (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) led the Seawolves with two hits, including a double.

Junior Christine Lucido (Melville, N.Y.) took the defeat, snapping her six-game winning streak. Lucido allowed both runs in 3.2 innings of work, before being replaced by freshman Jane Sallen (Lake Worth, Fla.), who tossed 2.1 scoreless frames.
