The Stony Brook softball team ended the Mustang Classic with a bang, topping Fairleigh Dickinson, 6-0. Sophomore Jane Sallen (Lake Worth, Fla.) hurled a gem, throwing a complete game and allowing only two hits.

Senior Olivia Mintun (Neoga, Ill.) went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Head Coach Megan Bryant's Reaction
"Jane pitched with poise today, had good command and let her defense work for her. This win was a total team effort and a good way to finish the weekend."

Up 1-0 going into the bottom of the fourth, Stony Brook (5-10) broke open the game. Sophomore Melissa Phelan (Saddle Brook, N.J.) and junior Bria Green (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) singled and sophomore Kellie Reynolds (Paso Robles, Calif.) walked, loading the bases for junior Jessica Zeilman (Newfield, N.J.). An error attempting to complete the double play allowed Phelan and Green to score as the Seawolves took a 3-0 lead.

Sophomore Patty Borges (Berkley, Mass.), pinch running for Zeilman, advanced to second on a bunt single by senior Nicole Schieferstein (Seaford, N.Y.). On the attempt to throw Borges out at second, the ball was thrown away as Borges came around to score.

Senior Jessica Combs (Hammonton, N.J.) followed with a walk to bring up Mintun, who belted a double to left to score Schieferstein and Combs.

Sallen earned her second win of the season. She retired the first 11 batter of the game and pitched to two batters over the minimum. The lefty also struck out two batters in her finest effort of the season
