Sept. 12, 2012
Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's soccer team will look to remain unbeaten at home this season when it welcomes Manhattan and Lehigh to LaValle Stadium this weekend. The Seawolves are 1-0-1 at home this season heading into Friday's 5 p.m. matchup against the Jaspers.
The Seawolves (4-2-1) had their five-game unbeaten streak snapped last Friday at No. 21 Rutgers, but still rose in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Northeast Regional Poll, climbing two spots to No. 7. Stony Brook has outscored its opponents, 12-8, through seven games and has received points from 13 different players thus far. Senior Sa'sha Kershaw (Baltimore, Md.) and freshmen Priscilla Wiggins (Princeton, N.J.) and Raven Edwards (West Orange, N.J.) continue to pace the squad with two goals apiece. With a victory this weekend, head coach Sue Ryan will pick up her 200th win with the Seawolves.
The Jaspers own a 2-3 overall record with wins over Delaware State and Lafayette, and losses against Fordham, Sacred Heart and Rhode Island. Emily Ude leads Manhattan with three points (1 G, 1 A) thus far, while Allison Pfeiffer owns a team-best two assists. Kara Davis has started all five games between the pipes and boasts an impressive 0.75 GAA to go along with one shutout.
The Mountain Hawks are still vying for their first victory in 2012 after dropping their first four matches. Lehigh was shutout in its first three games by Seton Hall, Providence and Binghamton, before dropping an overtime decision at Monmouth last week. Lehigh will also play Friday night against Marist before making the trip to Stony Brook on Sunday. Murphee Greeley has accounted for the Mountain Hawks' lone goal this season and leads the team in shots (5) and shots on goal (4).
