Feb. 4, 2012
Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's soccer team held its annual year-end banquet on Saturday, handing out individual awards and honoring its seniors, friends and family.
Head coach Sue Ryan and the Stony Brook coaching staff gave out four individual awards for team MVP, outstanding freshman, top scholar-athlete and the coaches' award.
The MVP was awarded to junior Sa'sha Kershaw (Baltimore, Md.), who tied for the team lead with three goals and seven points in 17 games. Regan Bosnyak (Newington, Conn.) was honored with the most-outstanding freshman award after starting 16 games in the central midfield and collecting a pair of goals. The top scholar-athlete award was presented to sophomore Larissa Nysch (Dresher, Pa.), while the coaches' award went to senior captain Dana Adamkiewicz (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.).
Kershaw and Bosnyak were also presented with their America East honor certificates, which were originally awarded in October. Kershaw was named second-team All-America East, while Bosnyak earned an All-Rookie nod. Ryan also acknowledged that Kershaw would be named a team captain for the upcoming 2012 season.
In addition, Stony Brook honored the four seniors who played their final games with the Seawolves in 2011: Adamkiewicz, Daniela Giuliani (West Lafayette, Ind.), Alexis Lindo (York, Pa.) and Rachel Silverman (Rye Brook, N.Y.). Seniors Dominique Adamo (Ramsey, N.J.) and Colleen McKenna (Manorville, N.Y.) will return for one more year after being granted medical redshirts in 2011.
