Stony Brook, N.Y. – Defender Marina Mestres of the No. 20/18 Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team has been named to the IWLCA Honor Roll, the organization announced Tuesday morning. A chemical and molecular engineering major, Mestres holds a 3.94 grade-point average (GPA).

To be eligible for the distinction, student-athletes must have achieved at least junior status and hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50.

Mestres saw action in 12 games during her junior season and helped the nationally-ranked Seawolves lead the country in scoring defense at 5.33 goals allowed per game, the lowest team average in NCAA Division I history. She played in Stony Brook’s first-ever shutout, a 13-0 win over Monmouth Feb. 19.

The Medford, N..J.,  native was selected to the America East All-Academic Team and helped SBU win a conference title and NCAA Tournament game for the second straight season.

Stony Brook was recently recognized as an IWLCA Honor Squad for posting a 3.14 team GPA.
