Murphy named WomensLAX.com National Rookie of the Week for a second time

Stony Brook, N.Y. – Freshman Courtney Murphy of the No. 20/18 Stony Brook has been tabbed WomensLax.com National Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. Murphy tallied eight goals in two games during the America East Championship to help the Seawolves retain their conference crown.
The Shirley, N.Y., product stashed away a game-high six goals in a 13-5 semifinal triumph for Stony Brook Friday night at LaValle Stadium. In the title game, she scored twice to lift the Seawolves to a 7-1 win over rival Albany and second consecutive NCAA Tournament berth.
Murphy is 11th overall and first among freshmen nationally with a team-best 56 goals this season. She is third among Division I freshmen in goals per game at 2.95.
Murphy, who was named WomensLax.com National Rookie of the Week Feb. 17 after a sensational eight-point debut vs. Bucknell Feb. 17, collected America East All-Rookie and Second Team honors.
She and the Seawolves will face Towson in the NCAA Tournament First Round Friday at 4 p.m. in Syracuse, N.Y.
