Caridi tabbed ECAC Defensive Player of the Week
April 23, 2014
Centerville, Mass. – Having already been named America East Defensive Player of the Week for a record sixth time, senior goalie Frankie Caridi of the No. 16/15 Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team is the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Caridi stopped eight of the 13 shots she faced in a 15-5 win over New Hampshire Saturday that gave the Seawolves the top seed for the America East Championship and a share of the regular-season title. She shut out the Wildcats over the final 17:58 to help the top-ranked scoring defense in the nation hold an opponent to single-digit goals for the 14th time in 15 games.
The East Northport, N.Y., native leads Division I in goals-against average (4.70) and save percentage (.571). She has received six America East Defensive Player of the Week honors, which is tied with Boston University’s Jenny Hauser for the most weekly awards in conference history. Hauser was named Rookie of the Week six times in 2005.
At Delaware Tuesday, Caridi continued to pad her All-American resume by making seven stops in an 8-4 win. Stony Brook has now kept teams to single-digit goal scoring in 15 of 16 games and to five goals or fewer 11 times.
Caridi will be in the cage when the Seawolves put their 11-game winning streak on the line at Vermont Saturday at 11 a.m. A win would give SBU its second consecutive unbeaten regular-season conference mark and outright America East regular-season crown and tie the 2013 team’s record for longest winning streak in program history (12).
