Stony Brook, N.Y. – Frankie Caridi of the No. 10/11 Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team has been tabbed America East Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season. No other women’s lacrosse student-athlete has picked up more weekly conference honors than the junior goalie.

Caridi made eight saves in Stony Brook’s (12-2, 4-0 AE) 16-6 win over New Hampshire, which helped the Seawolves become the first America East team to clinch a spot in the conference championship, slated for May 3 and May 5 on the highest seed’s home field. The East Northport, N.Y., native marshaled a defense that allowed single-digits in scoring for the 13th time in 14 games this season and 12th consecutive contest.  She posted a save percentage of .571 to go along with two ground balls and one caused turnover, as SBU claimed its seventh straight win to tie a school record set in 2007.

One of the elite netminders in the country, Caridi entered the week atop the national rankings in goals allowed average and save percentage, while the SBU scoring defense ranked first in the country. Caridi once again garnered national recognition last week, being named to the ILwomen.com Position Rankings for the second time this season. Teammate Demmianne Cook was also named for her standout play at midfield.

The Seawolves, who currently own sole possession of first-place in the league standings, have garnered a conference-best nine AE weekly honors and have claimed at least one award in seven of nine weeks this season. This is the third week in a row SBU has won the Defensive Player of the Week award, with Michelle Rubino being recognized last week and Caridi on April 1.

Stony Brook, ranked in the top 10 in a major national poll for the first time in school history, squares off with Boston University Saturday, April 20 at 1 p.m.  A win would wrap up the right to host the 2013 America East Championship and set a school mark for most consecutive victories.
