Murphy tabbed America East Rookie of the Week
March 17, 2014
Cambridge, Mass. –Freshman attacker Courtney Murphy of the No. 18/17 Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team has been named America East Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, conference officials announced Monday morning.
Murphy put herself in the record books once again by scoring an astounding eight goals, the second-highest output in program single-game history, to lead Stony Brook passed Central Connecticut Thursday. The goal total, which came on 10 shots, topped former America East Players of the Year Demmianne Cook, Claire Petersen and Kaitlin Leggio, who posted seven goals in multiple games during their tenures. Murphy stashed away seven shots in her phenomenal debut Feb. 15 against Bucknell.
The Shirley, N.Y., native and graduate of William Floyd High School added two ground balls and one caused turnover. Her riding efforts helped limit CCSU to a 9-for-18 night on clear attempts.
Stony Brook goes for its 100th win in program history at Iona Thursday and hosts Siena Saturday at 4 p.m.
