Caridi grabs America East Defensive Player of the Week accolade
Feb. 24, 2014
Cambridge, Mass. – Senior goalie Frankie Caridi of the No. 15t/13 Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team has been named America East Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week and sixth time in her career, conference officials announced Monday.
Cardi posted a .579 save percentage in two games against 2013 NCAA qualifiers in Monmouth and the then-No. 15/15 Notre Dame. She anchored an immaculate, historic defensive effort in a 13-0 win against Monmouth, causing two turnovers and scooping up two ground balls in the Seawolves’ first shutout in program history. The East Northport, N.Y., product tallied a career-high 11 saves and held the Irish scoreless for the final 20:55 to help Stony Brook nearly come back from a five-goal deficit in South Bend, Ind.
One of the nation’s elite netminders, Caridi has not allowed a team to score in double digits in SBU’s first three games. She kept opponents under 10 goals in 17 of 20 games on her way to All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors last season.
