Van Dyke nets six, No. 15t/13 #Seawolves drop Drexel, 16-6
Feb. 26, 2014
Philadelphia, Pa. – Freshman midfielder Dorrien Van Dyke tallied seven points on six goals and one assist as the No. 15t/13 Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team got back on track with a 16-6 win over Drexel Wednesday afternoon. Junior midfielder Michelle Rubino added four goals, and senior goalie Frankie Caridi made seven saves.
Carlee Ries recorded six saves in the first loss of the season for Drexel (2-1).
“The conditions were brutal, but our players played hard and our offense played a complete 60 minutes. This was a good game and a perfect one to prepare us for a talented Florida team Saturday.”
--Head Coach Joe Spallina
With the score even at 1-1, Cardillo found Van Dyke for a goal at the 11:57 mark of the first half. After an unassisted tally for Rubino about 2:30 later, the duo connected again to put Stony Brook in front, 4-1, with 6:45 remaining in the stanza. Van Dyke would strike twice more, and Kelly Kuerner and Murphy would score two goals apiece before halftime to cap the 9-0 run that gave the Seawolves a commanding 10-1 advantage at the break.
