Countdown to #Seawolves Tip-Off: Harris' Homecoming

Teasha Harris figures to be an impact player for the Seawolves during her senior year

Oct. 11, 2013 is counting down the days until #Seawolves Tip-Off on Nov. 8 when both the men's and women's basketball teams are hosting their home openers. Visit every day for new content.

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook women's basketball team will play at Bradley Friday, Nov. 15 and at Iowa, one of the four teams on the Seawolves' schedule that qualified for the postseason last year, Sunday, Nov. 17 in what promises to be a special homecoming for Bloomington, Ill., native Teasha Harris.

"Stony Brook's incredible academic reputation allows us to recruit highly talented players from all over the country, and we try to provide a hometown experience for each of them," women's basketball head coach Beth O'Boyle, who recruited Harris out of Kirkwood Community College, said. "The team is genuinely excited to play in front of Teasha's friends and family."

In her first season as a Seawolf, Harris made an instant impact, playing in all 30 games and finishing second on the team with 43 assists.

"Teasha brings leadership and a great work ethic to our team," O'Boyle said. "We will definitely rely on her energy and experience to help us be successful this season."

Off the court, Harris says her teammates helped her adjust to New York after spending her entire life in the Midwest.

"New York is an entirely different culture," Harris said. "Being on a team makes it easier because you spend so much time together. My teammates are not just teammates. They're my friends, too, and they bring their friends over, so it has helped me meet so many different people."

And while she is enjoying her time on Long Island, she is looking forward to the trip home.

"I'm really excited," the senior guard beamed. "I have more than 30 people coming to the Bradley game and a lot of friends and former high school and JuCo coaches coming to watch us play Iowa. They haven't seen me play in a while, so it'll be great for them to watch me in my last year."
