Gatling nominated for AE Fans' Choice award

Stony Brook, N.Y. – Gerda Gatling of the Stony Brook women’s basketball team has been nominated for the America East Women’s Basketball Fans’ Choice Player of the Year award.

To vote, fans can visit the America East’s Facebook page, and scroll down to the poll post. Voting begun today at noon and will go until 12 p.m. (noon) on Tuesday, March 5. The winner will be announced that afternoon in a press release at

Gatling, a senior forward, leads Stony Brook with 27 starts and has played all 28 games for the Seawolves this season, helping the squad to what is currently the fifth best turnaround in the country with 10 more wins this season than in 2011-12. She paced SBU on the glass and matched a career-best 13 boards to help the Seawolves rally from a double-digit deficit to best Maine on Senior Day on Feb. 23 at Pritchard. A four-year member of the women’s basketball team, Gatling is seventh in the league in offensive boards per game with 2.6 and third on the team in rebounding average with 4.6 rebounds per contest.
