Proctor tabbed America East Co-Player of the Week
Feb. 24, 2014
Cambridge, Mass. – A pair of 20-plus point efforts have earned junior forward Sabre Proctor of the Stony Brook women’s basketball team her second America East Co-Player of the Week honor, conference officials announced Monday. Proctor averaged a league-best 23 points in the #Seawolves’ wins over UMBC and Maine last week.
She shares the honor with Hartford’s Amber Bepko.
Proctor lit up the scoreboard with 20 points on 7-for-13 shooting in a road rout of UMBC Wednesday. For an encore, she recorded a career-high 26 points in Stony Brook’s 20th triumph of the season Saturday against Maine. With the victory, the Seawolves tied their single-season Division I program wins record set in 2005-06.
The Harrisburg, Pa., native, who is second in the conference in scoring at 15.6 points per game, has been consistently stellar all season. She has scored 20 or more points ten times and has reached double figures in 24 of Stony Brook’s 27 games. For her career, Proctor has posted 39 double-digit scoring efforts, which is good for seventh in Seawolves history and is three shy of Laura Ruane. Ruane scored in double figures 42 times from 1995-99.
Proctor and the Seawolves will look to break their Division I wins record when they host Vermont Wednesday at noon on Kids’ Day. Stony Brook will honor its three seniors, Chikilra Goodman, Teasha Harris and Natalie Myers, in a pregame ceremony, and will also provide free lunch from Moe’s Southwest Grill to faculty and staff. The game will be broadcast live nationally on ESPN3.
