Balanced effort nets Goodman America East Co-Player of the Week honors
Jan. 27, 2014
Cambridge, Mass. – Senior guard Chikilra Goodman has been named America East Co-Player of the Week after leading the Stony Brook women’s basketball team to a 3-0 week and back-to-back road wins at Vermont and Maine.
This is the second Player of the Week nod of Goodman’s career and her first of the season. She previously won the award Dec. 10, 2012.
Goodman averaged 16.3 points, seven boards, three helpers and 2.3 steals last week. She shot an impressive 87 percent (20-for-23) from the line. It was Goodman’s team-best 22 points and stellar free throw shooting that helped the Seawolves hold off UMBC for a 66-62 win Monday, Jan. 20 at Pritchard. The Philadelphia, Pa., product hit six shots from the charity stripe in the final 90 ticks and a career-high 13 of 14 overall.
She followed that up by pouring in 15 points and tying for a game-high seven boards in Stony Brook’s 83-49 rout of Vermont Thursday on ESPN3, the team’s largest margin of victory of the season. Her most balanced effort arguably came Sunday at Maine, when she recorded a team-high 12 points to go along with a game-best six assists, five rebounds and two steals.
Goodman splits the honor with Albany’s Shereesha Richards. The two players will meet Thursday when Stony Brook hosts its SUNY rival on Wolfie Bobblehead Night. The first 500 fans to enter Pritchard will receive a FREE limited edition Wolfie bobblehead. Additionally, one lucky student will win a FREE iPad.
The Seawolves are riding a season-long five-game winning streak and are off to their best start to conference action since they also went 6-1 in 2006-07, while Albany is 6-0 in America East play. At 15-5, Stony Brook has its best record through 15 games in Division I program history.
