Stephanie Witko tabbed Director of Basketball Operations

Witko was a two-time ESPN Academic All-American at Marymount

Stony Brook women's basketball head coach Beth O'Boyle named Stephanie Witko the Director of Basketball Operations in July 2013. Witko helped lead the University of Scranton to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2010 in 2012-13.

"We are very excited to welcome Steph," O'Boyle said. "She is a great addition to our staff. Steph has a wealth of experience from her collegiate playing career and successful run while coaching at Scranton."

"Steph is extremely hard-working, dedicated to the game and will be a tremendous role model for our student-athletes."

Witko spent two years as an assistant at Scranton under Mike Strong, the winningest coach in Div. III history with 789 career victories, where she was involved in all aspects of the program including scheduling, office duties and communicating with student-athletes both on and off the court.

Committed to community service and fundraising, Witko also headed up the Lady Royals' Play 4 Kay efforts and organized a drive to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Prior to her stint at Scranton, Witko served as an assistant for her alma mater, the University of Marymount, from 2008-11. At Marymount, she managed office duties and facilitated communication between student-athletes and the coaching staff as the Saints punched tickets to the NCAA Tournament in each of her three seasons on the sidelines. The 2009-10 season was one of the finest campaigns in school history, with the squad advancing to the Sweet 16 and finishing with a 28-2 mark and at No. 9 in the country.

During her four-year playing career at Marymount, Witko was a standout both on the court and in the classroom. A three-time CAC all-conference selection, she was named to the ESPN Academic All-American First Team in 2008 and its second team in 2007. Witko, who captained the Saints as a junior and senior, was also awarded the Marymount University Senior Leadership Award and nabbed Female Athlete of the Year honors following her senior season.

She graduated Summa Cum Laude and as a member of the honors program from Marymount in 2008 with a B.A. in psychology and completed her master's in counseling and human development at George Washington University in 2010.
