Countdown to #Seawolves Tip-Off: Meet the Staff

Get to know the Stony Brook women's basketball staff

Nerlande Nicolas was named assistant coach of Stony Brook women's basketball by head coach Beth O'Boyle in July 2013. Nicolas came to Seawolves Country with five seasons of experience on the sidelines having most recently served as the Director of Basketball Operations at the University of Dayton for one year.

"We are very excited to welcome Nerlande to Stony Brook," O'Boyle said. "She is a highly motivated coach who has a tremendous passion for the game."

At Dayton, Nicolas assisted the women's basketball coaches in day-to-day operations, including coordinating all aspects of team travel, supervising student managers and helping to oversee student-athlete academic progress. She previously spent one year as the video coordinator at the University of Rhode Island, where she managed all video-related projects, and served three seasons on the bench for her alma mater, Rutgers University-Newark.

Nicolas, who joined a Stony Brook team fresh off a turnaround season of its own, is no stranger to the building process. At Rutgers-Newark, she helped guide the Scarlet Raiders to 19 wins in 2010-11, a 12-win improvement from the previous season.

During her four-year playing career, Nicolas led the Rutgers University-Newark women's basketball team to four consecutive NJAC and ECAC tournament berths and was named to the NJAC second-team in 2008. She bookended her career with a pair of coach's awards, being honored for exemplifying dedication to the team as a freshman and senior in 2005 and 2008, respectively.

Nicolas graduated from Rutgers University-Newark with a bachelor's degree in management in 2008 and earned her master's in public administration from the school in 2011.
