Stony Brook University head women's basketball coach Beth O'Boyle named Kate DeSorrento as an assistant coach in July 2012. DeSorrento comes to Stony Brook after spending the 2011-12 season as the head coach at Hamilton College.

DeSorrento is involved in all aspects of the program and serves as the Seawolves recruiting coordinator.

In her one season at Hamilton, DeSorrento led the Continentals to eight victories and the third best scoring defense in the NESCAC (52.0 points per game).

Prior to being hired at Hamilton, DeSorrento served for three seasons as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator at the University of Rochester where she helped guide the Yellowjackets to a 68-18 record and three NCAA Division III championship appearances including a spot in the national semifinals in 2010.

A three-year letterwinner at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., DeSorrento led the Dutchwomen to a school record 24 wins and their first ever NCAA appearance in 2003-04. She received a bachelor's degree in neuroscience with a history minor from Union in 2006 and will complete her master's in public health from the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry in August.
