Ithaca, N.Y. - Sophomore Nikita Fomin (Moscow, Russia) advanced to the Round of 32 to lead the Stony Brook University men's tennis team at the 2011 USTA/ITA Men's Northeast Regional over the weekend at Cornell University.

Fomin received a bye to the Round of 64 and then defeated Nikola Kocovic of Penn in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) to advance to the Round of 32. But Fomin was then eliminated in his Round of 32 match by Brandon Burke of Brown.

Senior Roope Kailaheimo (Helsinki, Finland) advanced to the Round of 64 with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Dennis Zlobinsky from Fairfield. He then dropped a tough three-set (6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-3) match to fourth seed Xander Centenari of Dartmouth.

Freshmen Francis Bertrand (Repentigny, Quebec, Canada) and Stefan Ilic (Forest Hills, N.Y.) each qualified for the main singles draw with two victories in the Men's Qualifier.

Bertrand then reached the Round of 64 with a three-set victory over Kuba Kowalski from Fordham before being eliminated by Ivan Turudic of Penn. Ilic lost in three sets in his opening match of the main draw.
