Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook tennis teams begin their quest for a conference championship this weekend, heading to the 2012 America East tournament at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. The fourth-seeded women open against No. 5 Albany in the quarterfinal round on Friday at 11 a.m. while the second-seeded men open against No. 3 UMBC in the semifinal round on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The women's team is looking for its first ever championship and enters after going 11-7 during the regular season. Junior No. 1 Nini Lagvilava (Tbilisi, Georgia) and freshman No. 2 Polilna Movchan (Kiev, Ukraine) combined to go 29-6 at the top two singles spots this year.

The winner of the Stony Brook/Albany quarterfinal match takes on top-seeded Boston University in the semifinals on Saturday at 10 a.m. The Seawolves lost a 4-3 decision to the Terriers in the semifinals last season.

The men's team is in search of its first tournament championship since 2006. The Seawolves went 9-9 during the regular season including a 4-3 victory over UMBC.

Stony Brook won six of seven matches to close the regular season led by sophomore No. 1 Nikita Fomin (Moscow, Russia), who has a 14-2 record in dual matches this season.
