Coach's Corner - A Note From the Desk of Coach Glassman

Jan. 21, 2009

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Happy New Year and welcome to the first Coach's Corner of 2009 - a monthly newsletter to keep you informed and up-to-date on Stony Brook Tennis!

This is a very special edition of the Coach's Corner as we take a stroll down memory lane. Steve Lewis '80, now makes his home in Henderson, Nevada, and was kind enough to share video footage of the tennis team from the years 1976-1980. Our great sport has evolved over the years as far as technology and equipment (and especially the fashion!). However, there is no denying that the passion and intensity has been a common theme throughout generations of college tennis players. Steve's late father, Cy Lewis, was an incredible fan with a love of our sport and it is in evidence in the video and commentary. I encourage everybody to take the time to watch the enclosed link - Watch Here, If any of you have pictures, video, stories, updates (marriages, births, etc...) that you would like to share - please feel free to pass that along to me. Steve's email is < > and he would like to hear from his former teammates. The first person to correctly identify the most members in the 1977 team photo will win a Stony Brook Tennis shirt and hat. Additionally, I would like to start a Stony Brook "Friends page" as a vehicle for getting everybody in touch with each other. With that in mind - please feel free to email me your contact information and I will get the process started. If you know of anybody that should be added to our mailing list - please forward me their name and email.

Our Stony Brook Tennis shirt promotion is still in full swing and we have a few shirts left. Don't forget - this year's t-shirt offer includes a long sleeve and short sleeve option. In exchange for an official Seawolves shirt we are simply asking that you make a PAWS contribution of your choice to the tennis program. FYI - Stony Brook has undergone massive budgetary restrictions and your support is needed now more than ever.

Our spring season kicks off in February as the men head to Yale on the 7th. The men and women will travel to Army on February 20th. For the complete schedule please visit our web site at We'll look forward to seeing you at the matches this season.
