Men's tennis tops Fairfield, 4-3

On the heels of the 2013 America East Championships, the Stony Brook men's tennis team defeated Fairfield, 4-3, Monday afternoon at University Courts. The Seawolves rallied for four singles wins after losing the doubles point.

It was the underclassmen who earned singles victories against the Stags as a trio of freshmen - Rick Timmermann (Wesley Chapel, Fla.), Jose Morales (Bradenton, Fla.) and Marcelo Locatelli (Londrina, Brazil) - and sophomore Albert Fontova (Lleida, Spain) helped SBU to the win.

Timmermann won his match 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Morales (6-2, 6-2) and Locatelli (6-4, 6-3) each recorded victories to even the match and Fontova's 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 6 singles clinched Stony Brook's fourth straight win.

Stony Brook will head to Baltimore for the conference championships. Play begins on Friday morning at UMBC.
