Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook men's soccer freshman Favio Sbarra (Caracas, Venezuela) has been named the America East Rookie of the Week after scoring a goal in his collegiate debut, the conference announced Tuesday.

In addition, the men's soccer team has been placed in the first NSCAA Northeast Region Poll of the year, coming in at No. 8.

Playing in his first collegiate game last Friday in the Seawolves home opener vs. Sacred Heart, Sbarra found his way into the box and took a pass from fellow freshman Jorge Torres (Miami, Fla.) about 25 yards away and one-timed a kick past the Pioneers goalkeeper for a score in the match's 31st minute.

The goal gave the Seawolves a 2-0 advantage that the team's defense made sure held up.

The victory pushed Stony Brook's unbeaten streak in season openers to four (3-0-1). The Seawolves are next in action Friday night at Penn with first kick scheduled for 9 p.m.
