Faceoff: In the first of a two-game homestand, the Stony Brook men's lacrosse will look to get back to its winning ways against Manhattan Tuesday night at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. The Seawolves and Jaspers have not played since the 2002 season when Stony Brook pulled out a 15-8 win.
Opponent: Three of Manhattan's six losses have come against ranked opponents, including setbacks to No. 2 North Carolina and No. 10 Princeton. The Jaspers feature 12 players from Long Island, including senior goalie Rich Akapnitis, a native of Hauppauge, who has started all seven games and posted .513 save percentage and 13.48 goals against average. Manhattan has struggled scoring, averaging just over six goals per game. Senior Ryan Payton (William Floyd HS) and junior Andrew Hurst (Babylon HS) lead team with seven goals apiece.
Series: Stony Brook leads the all-time series, 3-1. The Seawolves' only loss to the Jaspers came nearly 14 years ago after Manhattan held on for an 11-9 victory.
Up Next: Stony Brook will host regional rival St. John's on Saturday, March 22 at 1 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the women's team, which will face Siena at 4 p.m.
