Men's lacrosse tied for second in America East preseason poll
Jan. 31, 2013
Cambridge, Mass. -
The Stony Brook men's lacrosse team was picked to finish second in the America East preseason poll, the conference announced on Thursday. The Seawolves, who garnered two first-place votes, tied for second with UMBC, which picked up one first-place vote. Albany (three first-place votes) was chosen as the preseason favorite. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own team.
Stony Brook returns only two of its top seven scorers from last year's team that advanced to its second NCAA Tournament in three seasons. Sophomore Mike Rooney (East Islip, N.Y.), the 2012 America East Rookie of the Year, led the team with 34 goals and 47 points. Senior Jeff Tundo (Orchard Park, N.Y.), a first team all-conference selection who was drafted by the New York Lizards, tallied 17 goals and 28 assists in his first season as a Seawolf.
Second-year coach Jim Nagle's squad will be one of the youngest teams in Division I, with 17 freshmen and 24 underclassmen on the 35-member roster.
Season and individual game tickets are on sale. To purchase tickets, log on to GoSeawolves.org or call (631) 632-WOLF. The season gets underway February 9 at 12 p.m. vs. Fairfield.
Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium will host the 2013 America East Championship on May 2 and 4. Tickets for the four-team tournament will go on sale on February 9.
