Stony Brook has unveiled a Walter Payton Award campaign for senior Miguel Maysonet

Stony Brook, N.Y. - With three 200-yard games and an FCS-best 1,502 rushing yards and 16 total touchdowns, the Stony Brook Department of Athletics has unveiled a Walter Payton Award campaign to promote senior running back Miguel Maysonet.

The award, which is presented to the outstanding player in the Football Championship Subdivision, is the most prestigious honor at the FCS level. Stony Brook's campaign, titled Maysonet4Payton, will feature the website,, which features a Maysonet highlight video, statistics, and quotes.

A preseason All-American by the Sports Network and Phil Steele's College Football Preview, Maysonet already has rushed for 14 touchdowns in nine games. After a record-breaking 2011, Maysonet has been spectacular as a senior. During a four-game span, Maysonet set a new career-high in three of four games, capped by a career-best 233 yards at Coastal Carolina.

Maysonet ranks second in all-purpose yards (199.11) and fourth in scoring (10.67). A native of Riverhead, Maysonet has led the Seawolves to a program-best No. 9 ranking in the FCS Coaches and Sports Network polls.

In 33 games as a Seawolf, he has 4,263 yards and 46 total touchdowns.

Maysonet is the FCS' active leader in yards per game (129.2) and yards per carry (7.03), and ranks in the top 10 in career yards and rushing TDs (41).
