Stony Brook, N.Y. - Saturday's loss was a very disappointing one for our program for a lot of different reasons. I appreciate everybody's congratulations on being close with UMass, but that's not what our football program is about. Our football program is about winning games on Saturdays, so we as a program are not satisfied with being close or having a lead in the fourth quarter. We fully expect to walk on the field and compete every Saturday. I am proud of our kids and their ability to take what was a non-impressive performance against Brown and use that against Massachusetts, but that is something we're expected to do.

To get respect at the levels we're playing, we need to win these games. That being said, I have a lot of respect for UMass, where they've been and how they continue to stay atop of FCS; we understand that was a quality opponent we played on Saturday. I was excited about having some guys back in uniform. Al-Majid Hutchins made a big interception on the second drive of the game. Two offensive linemen, Brian Crew and Armand Poole, and running back Eddie Gowins are important components we need to be successful this season.

We continue to strive to be a tough team when opposing schools play us at LaValle Stadium and I think we proved that against UMass last week. This is a great week for us to have a bye. We have some injuries that need to be rehabbed, but also for the fact that as a program we can re-evaluate where we are at with various aspects of our football program.

We appreciate all the fan support. All of our fans that have come to LaValle Stadium to watch us and also at South Florida and Brown have been awesome. We're not proud of our record, but I think better things are yet to come.
