2012 Coach's Corner #3 - A Letter from the desk of Coach Priore

Stony Brook, N.Y. - As a program, we're really excited for the opportunity to play Syracuse on Saturday. It will be a great measuring stick as to where our program stands today. Syracuse is a top-level FBS school. Coach Marrone has them playing great football despite what their record says. If you watched the game against USC, this was a competitive game until late in the fourth quarter. It took two NFL first-round picks to put the game out of reach.

There are certain elements that go with playing these types of games. First and foremost will be the emotional part. You tend to get real excited about playing before a large crowd. We've got to keep our emotions in check and play our game. Secondly, the home-crowd advantage will add a noise factor we're not used to. We'll make sure communication on offense is sound. Finally, we're not going to worry about what the scoreboard says; we're just going to play our game.

Our goal is to take this game into the fourth quarter within reach. We've got a good football team. We've gotten some answers, starting out 2-0, but Syracuse will give us some different answers. We'll get the opportunity to see how fast we are, how good we tackle and how our wide receivers play against quality cover cornerbacks.

We're excited about that opportunity to play a great team like Syracuse, but we recognize its challenges. We're going to always play Stony Brook football no matter what the outcome is.

Fans can watch the game locally on SNY, which is Cablevision channel 60 and Time Warner Cable channel 28 and ESPN3.com.
