Johnson named CAA Defensive Player of the Week
Sep 9, 2013
Richmond, Va. - Senior Reuben Johnson (Lawnside, N.J.) was named the CAA's Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. Johnson recovered two fumbles and forced another in Stony Brook's 24-0, season-opening win over Rhode Island. The two fumble recoveries led to 14 points.
Johnson helped stall a Rhode Island drive early in the second quarter after junior Max Martinez's (Wichita, Kan.) hustling play forced Andrew Matos to fumble. The fumble recovery led to senior Marcus Coker's (Beltsville, Md.) eight-yard touchdown and a 10-0 Seawolves lead.
Early in the fourth quarter, Johnson tackled Justin Semmes in the flat, forcing and recovering the fumble to end another Rhode Island drive. Six plays later, the Seawolves connected on their third touchdown of the game.
Johnson, a transfer from Cincinnati, finished with four tackles, including one for loss.
Stony Brook will face FBS Buffalo on Saturday, September 14 at 3:30 p.m. The game will be televised live on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app and can be heard live on 96.9 and 107.1 FM as well as ChampionsRadio.com.
